The Singapore Council of the Navy League of the United States created Easter care packages for US Navy sailors traveling through Singapore. Events Director Melanie Rockstad (right) presents board games, chocolates and bags of Easter surprises to US Navy personnel who find themselves half a world away from family and friends during the holiday.
Extended operations away from home port can last up to 6 to 9 months. This means sailors often miss important holidays like Christmas and Easter, and family milestones like birthdays and graduations. One of the vital missions of the US Navy League is to offer hospitality to enlisted and officers during port calls in Singapore.
