The Singapore Chapter of the U.S. Navy League is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our Board brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds. This page will keep you updated on what Board positions are open and provide you with information on the responsibilities of each position.

OPEN POSITIONS

Secretary

Accepting Applications

 

The Secretary supports the President and Vice President directly, assisting with a variety of communications and organizational tasks. Additionally, the Secretary works closely with the Membership function to maintain members relations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining and updating the Membership database
  • Help provide welcomes, renewal reminders, and other standard messages to members as needed
  • Support the President and Vice President as needed
  • Attend and support Navy League events

 

Required Skills:

  • Native-level proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

President

Current: Ray Corrigan

 

The President leads the organization, keeping a strategic view of growth opportunities. He or she must maintain all current relationships with Community Partners, as well as create new connections for future collaboration. Our President’s long-time experience in the Singapore location and with the U.S. military and diplomatic communities are invaluable assets in this function.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create annual strategy for the Navy League organization
  • Work with the Vice President to guide quarterly Board meetings
  • Oversee all organizational accounts and databases
  • Manage the Navy League team and delegate duties as needed
  • Maintain relationships with all Community partners, affiliates, and sponsors
  • Develop new opportunities for community collaboration
  • Attend and host Navy League events
  • Prepare formal addresses for Navy League events
  • Provide a leading voice on the Navy Ball Planning Committee
  • Evaluate and assist with training Navy League Board members

 

Required Skills:

  • Career (Ret.) in diplomacy or military service
  • Expertise in military tradition and conduct
  • 5+ years of residency and active involvement in Singapore
  • 2+ years of Navy League, Singapore chapter membership
  • Small team management experience
  • Networking and public speaking skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently

Vice President

Current: Michael Little

 

The Vice President is second in command over the organization and shares many of the President’s responsibilities. He or she helps maintain all current relationships with Community Partners and works to create new connections for future collaboration. The Vice President is largely in-charge of managing the functions of the team, assigning and following up on delegated tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Help create and fulfill annual strategy for the Navy League organization
  • Work with the President to organize and guide quarterly Board meetings
  • Assist with overseeing all organizational accounts and databases
  • Manage the Navy League team; assigning, delegating, and following up on tasks and duties as needed
  • Help maintain relationships with Community partners and affiliates
  • Develop and implement new opportunities for community collaboration
  • Attend and host Navy League events
  • Provide a leading voice on the Navy Ball Planning Committee
  • Assist with evaluating and training Navy League Board members

 

Required Skills:

  • 2+ years of residency and active involvement in Singapore
  • 2+ years of Navy League, Singapore chapter membership
  • Knowledge of U.S. military in Asia preferred
  • Leadership experience, especially on Boards in Singapore
  • Management experience, including direct reports
  • Networking and public speaking skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, etc.), Microsoft Office, and WordPress, MailChimp, Survey Monkey preferred

Membership

Current: Joanne Wheeler

 

The Membership Officer is an important part of the Board. His or her function is to help recruit new members, maintain the membership database, and execute routine members relations activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the membership database at all times
  • Organize welcome and renewal notices to members
  • Operate the Navy League booth at community events
  • Support the Events function at Navy League events
  • Help create recruitment opportunities for the Navy League

 

Required Skills:

  • Outstanding spoken and written English skills
  • Experience managing a membership database preferred
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

Public Affairs

Current: Priscilla Kyt

 

The Public Affairs Officer is a leading member of the Board. Responsible for all external communications, he or she works closely with both the Events and Communications functions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the Navy League website
  • Oversee the integrity of Navy League branding across all media
  • Write articles for publication in Singapore community newspapers and U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy League publications
  • Compose and post event write-ups online
  • Assist with putting together the quarterly e-newsletter
  • Assist with promoting Navy League events
  • Attend and take photos at Navy League events
  • Design and print Navy League marketing collateral

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience managing a website via the WordPress editing platform
  • Native-level proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Photography editing experience (Photoshop preferred)
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe Suite preferred)
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently

Communications

Current: OJ Oeverseth

 

The Communications Officer has an invaluable role in the organization, as he or she is primarily responsible for all internal communications to our members. He or she works closely with the Public Affairs function and compliments the Events and Membership functions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and send the quarterly e-newsletter
  • Help compose and send out post event write ups via email
  • Assist with composing and sending out event promotions
  • Create and analyze the membership survey
  • Manage all social media accounts
  • Provide support at Navy League events
  • Send e-blasts to members on behalf of other functions as needed

 

Required Skills:

  • Good time management skills
  • Outstanding written and spoken English skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, etc.), Microsoft Office, and MailChimp, Survey Monkey preferred

Events

Current: Jenny Blechner

 

The Events Officer plays a pivotal role in the team, balancing a combination of organizational, networking, and creative skill sets to make sure that both our internal and collaborative events are successful.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize internal Navy League events, from concept to venue to vendors
  • Manage RSVPs for both internal and collaborative events
  • Liaise with Communications and Public Affairs functions on promotions as needed
  • Explore and build contacts with new venues and vendors for events
  • Compose event ads using EventBrite
  • Develop new opportunities for community collaboration
  • Attend and manage Navy League events

 

Required Skills:

  • Event planning and/or event management experience
  • Proven professionalism under pressure
  • Great social and networking skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, MailChimp, and EventBrite preferred

Treasurer

Current: Charlie Brown

 

The Treasurer holds an important function within our organization. He or she maintains all our Navy League accounts and reports directly to the President as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain accounts for the Navy League
  • Keep accounts in good standing and provide regular reports
  • Support Navy League events

 

Required Skills:

  • Past service in the U.S. military (required)
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
  • Experience with account management
